Northeast Harbor is a village in the town of Mount Desert, set at the mouth of Somes Sound on the southern side of Mount Desert Island. Known for its sailing harbor, its summer colony, and the Asticou and Thuya gardens, it is one of the Hancock County communities where we do much of our painting.

Many of the properties here are large, older summer cottages with shingle siding, long porches, and a great deal of trim. A repaint on a house like that is mostly about preparation, so we scrape, sand, and prime the areas that need it, repair any failing boards, and then finish the job with the same care from the ground floor up to the eaves.

Homes near the harbor and along Sargeant Drive take salt air and wind off the water, while those under the spruce on the hillsides stay damp and shaded, which is where moss and algae take hold. We wash siding, decks, walkways, and steps back to clean, and washing ahead of a repaint gives the new finish a clean surface to hold onto.

Main Street's shops and galleries depend on looking their best through the summer season, and many Northeast Harbor homes sit closed for much of the year. Both make the shoulder seasons a good time to plan exterior work, and we are glad to keep owners who are away up to date by phone or email.
